The Worcester State Football Team has started the season 5-0 by beating Anna Maria, WPI, Nichols College, and Westfield State University in a triple overtime. In the first five games the Lancers offense has been lethal scoring over 40 points in three of the games.

Senior Quarterback ,Tony Tokarz, who broke the all-time Worcester State Quarterback rushing record against WPI, threw for 13 touchdowns in the first five games and just two four interceptions. Five of Tokarzs’s touchdowns were scored in the first game of the season against Anna Maria that the Lancers won 55-30.

Sophomore AJ Scerra has been one of Tokarz’s primary receivers, catching five of the thirteen touchdowns Tokarz has thrown. In the 49-3 blowout against Nichols College, Scerra and Tokarz set the pace early by hooking up for a 62 yard touchdown just 18 seconds in the game. Scerra had 134 receiving yards and two touchdowns against Nichols.

Passing has not been the only weapon the Lancers have used. Senior Running Back Marcus Price has had an outstanding start to the season and has rushed for over100 yardsin all five games. In the triple overtime victory against Westfield State, Price rushed for149 yardsand two touchdowns, including a game tying touchdown in the third overtime.

The games against Westfield State and Maine Maritime were the start of division play for Worcester State and the remainder of the season is all division matchups. Although the team is 5-0, the Lancers are trying to avoid what happened to them last year when they were a similar situation. In 2010, the Lancers started the season 3-1, but they had a tough time against teams in the same division. After the 3-1 start the Lancers went 3-4 and finished the season 5-5.

The Lancers have already won as many games as they did all of last year and by winning just one more game this season, the Lancers will be guaranteed a better record than last year and they may have the opportunity to do that October 15 during the homecoming game against Bridgewater State.
