Worcester State University(WSU) has many clubs and student organizations someone could get involved with. However unless you or someone you know is already involved with a group you may not know what the world of WSU student activities has to offer.

The Dance Company is comprised of about 100 students, making it the largest student organization on campus. They host 13 classes, taught by other students, and they are hoping to expand the number of classes next during the Spring 2012 semester. The Dance Company kicked off the fall semester with the Homecoming Pep Rally, performing, and hosting games and giveaways. They also hosted in a Master Class with Elizabeth LeTendre (who was on Season 3 of American Idol), and Freeflow (from Phunk Phenomenon) who taught contemporary jazz and break dancing.

Soon, the Dance Company will be performing in a show called WE SPEAK UP. It will be on Friday, December 2 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, December 4 at 2 p.m. in the Sullivan Autidorium. Tickets are only $3 for students and $5 for non-students. As a bonus, one dollar from each ticket will go to the SGA Auction.

The Student Events Committee is responsible for setting up various student activities throughout the semester. They put on a variety of events, like lectures (the Real Fighters event with Micky Ward and Dicky Eklund), comedy shows (The Dave and Ethan Comedy Show), trips (earlier in the semester they sponsored a trip to Lake Compounce), contests (they co-sponsered the Mr. Woo State Pageant), and themed events (the “Are You Afraid of the Dark?” Halloween event).

All of these events are free, and they typically offer free food during them. Some upcoming events include Fear Factor (held on December 1), and the Battle of the Brains (look for this in the spring).

Chairperson of SEC, Tara Jacobsen, said, “During meetings, we plan the events and also themed weeks such as Winter Week and Spring Week. As a member, you get to know of all the free events that are coming up plus get first dibs on free t-shirts or any novelties we give away. We meet every Tuesday at 3pm in the Foster Room.”
